Release:2015-06-17

On September 27th, 2013, Elizabeth J. Perry, the president of Harvard-Yenching Institute and chair professor Zhang Kaiyuan Academic Foundation visited Huada Forum, and delivered a report to the teachers and the students of our university titled “The Past and Present of the Globalization of Higher Education: the Inspiration of Church University in the Republic of China Era”. With the introduction of school-running system of church school in the Republic of China era, Doctor Perry probed into the relevant issues of current education in China. She analyzed the ways in which Saint John’s University and Yenching University inspired the students. She thought that the two universities gave lectures in English, had a complete disciplinary system, and attached importance to pragmatics of study, and thus they became the pacemakers of “Shanghai-style Culture”. This is a brand-new global education pattern where Chinese Confucius culture and western religion and technology merge into one, which is well-worth learning. Doctor Perry noted that contemporary students communicate more with English-speaking world and experience different cultures.
