From November 14 to the morning of November 15, 2020, the International Academic Seminar on "Local Experience and Transnational Vision: Modern Western Medical Missionaries in China and India" was successfully held at the Institute of Modern Chinese History at Central China Normal University(CCNU). This academic conference was hosted by the Research Center for East-West Cultural Exchange of CCNU, co-sponsored by the Institute of Modern Chinese History of CCNU, Harvard-Yenching Institute, Jawaharlal Nehru University of India(JNU) and Institute of Chinese Studies(ICS)as well as funded by Zhang Kaiyuan Cultural Exchange Foundation.
Zhang Kaiyuan, honorary senior professor and director of the Research Center, attended the opening ceremony and made an opening speech. He pointed out that if we hadn’t made research on missionaries, almost half of China's modern history would have been lost.
Professor Ma Min hoped that the discussion in regard to the medical missionary undertakings of modern Chinese and Indian medical missionaries could be carried out from the perspective of medical history during the meeting.
More than thirty scholars from China, the United States, Japan and India delivered three keynote speeches and twelve conference reports in online conference rooms. At the closing ceremony, scholars from various schools expressed their opinions on related issues.
