Lecturer Introduction: Prof. Michael A. Szonyi has been appointed as the director of Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies at Harvard University since January 1, 2016. Michael A. Szonyi is a professor of Chinese History in the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Harvard University, specializing in Chinese social history since the Ming and Qing Dynasties. His work includesPracticing Kinship: Lineage and Descent in Late Imperial China (Stanford,2002) and Cold War Island: Quemoy on the Front Line(Cambridge,2008).
